Cologne secured a 1-0 victory away at Mainz in their opening match of the Bundesliga season.
The decisive goal came in the 90th minute, when Marius Bülter scored following an assist from Luca Waldschmidt, the former Benfica forward.
With this result, Lukas Kwasniok’s side start the campaign with three points. Elsewhere on Sunday, two historic clubs, Hamburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach, played out a goalless draw.
